Dear Parents,
Our Head of Department of Humanities, Mrs Loh Ming Ming, had sent a circular to your NYPS Gmail account. Attached herewith for your convenience. This seems to be the trend for future correspondences. Thus, it would be great if you could check your Gmail account frequently. Another alternative would be to set up a link of NYPS Gmail account to the email account that you read frequently.
15 July 2009
Dear Parents / Guardians,
Commemoration of Racial Harmony Day @ NYPS (20 July 2009)Singapore is a nation built by people of many races and cultures. Living in harmony is therefore important and relevant to all Singaporeans, as it will ensure the continued peace and prosperity that we have enjoyed for many years.
This year, Racial Harmony Day (RHD) will be commemorated on 20 July 2009 (Monday) at Nanyang Primary School. The theme that has been identified by the Ministry of Education this year is “Who’s Your Neighbour?”. It aims to remind us that the fabric of our Singaporean society consists of a patchwork of inter-connected communities both within Singapore and in relation to our neighbouring countries.
Pupils will explore and reflect on the relationships they have with members of their community by engaging in activities and discussions during their Social Studies lessons in the coming week. In addition, on 20 July, pupils will get to learn more about the Indian culture and have the opportunity to play some traditional games with their classmates. Sale of traditional food and free Henna painting during the 3 recesses in the canteen will also add to the excitement of this cultural experience. We would like to seek your support to encourage your child to come to school in traditional ethnic costumes like baju kurong, Punjabi suit, sari etc.An Inter-Class Ethnic Costume Competition will be held, with 1 winning class per level. The class with the highest percentage of pupils dressed in ethnic costume wins!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Low Ming Ming
